Hot towels on the counter

A twelve-foot room on the ground floor of a 1908 warehouse conversion. Concrete floor, exposed brick, one long counter, one chair. The mirror is antique, the razor strop is on the wall, and the only sound is the clippers.

Marcus books one client per hour. No overlap, no waiting room bench, no assistant. You show up at your appointment time, you sit down, and you leave when the work is done.

Marcus apprenticed at his uncle's shop in East Orange from age fourteen. Twelve years behind the chair before he opened FOUNDRY on Broad Street in 2018. He cuts thirty heads a week. No more, no fewer.

Trained in classical scissor-over-comb, precision fades, and straight-razor shaving. Certified through the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology. His clients include three New Jersey Devils, two federal judges, and the guy who runs the deli next door.

The Hot Towel
Shave.

Sit back. Pre-shave oil, hot towel, second hot towel, cream, straight razor down the grain, hot towel, cream, straight razor across the grain, cold towel, balm. Forty minutes. You will fall asleep for at least ten.
